Lime & Orange Bio Fences

We propose an innovative, eco-friendly, and cost-effective solution: bio-fencing with Sri Lankan lime and orange trees. Studies suggest that strong citrus scent acts as a natural elephant deterrent. This project aims to establish lime and orange tree fences around small and medium-sized farms in Anuradhapura, reducing elephant intrusions while simultaneously providing an alternative income source for farmers, particularly female farmers.

We are planting 9,000 lime plants in 2025, forming protective barriers that deter elephants while enhancing biodiversity, increasing carbon sequestration, and providing long-term economic benefits to rural communities.
